Tips To Avoid Split Ends

Did you know hair is made up of 90% moisture?

Colouring our hair, applying heat tools and sunshine can all dry hair out depleting it of its natural moisture. Add wanting to grow the hair and it can feel impossible to get the length we have always wanted. We believe every woman can grow their hair long without split ends and have made this possible for clients over the past twenty years by following these five simple steps.

  1. Brush your hair starting at the ends working your way to the mid-lengths and then the root area. Invest in a good-quality natural hairbrush, we love our guasha style bamboo hairbrush with wood bristles which encourages blood circulation helping to improve hair quality and growth.

  2. Avoid washing your hair every day, If you find your hair is getting oily quickly you may be using too much product which will make it impossible to rinse out, leaving a residue on the hair. Overwashing the hair can dry the scalp disturbing the skin’s natural barrier, to protect the natural barrier the scalp will produce more oil, and so the cycle continues. While the scalp is rebalancing now you are washing your hair less try using dry shampoo on the root area to remove excess oil.

  3. Always apply conditioner to the ends, mid-lengths, and roots of the hair, no matter what your hair type. This will keep not only your hair but your scalp nourished, as mentioned above, not applying moisture to the scalp will encourage the sebaceous glands to produce more oil to prevent your scalp from drying out. We love our Treatment Conditioner as it works as an instant treatment that is to be used every time you wash your hair, with key extracts of Kakadu Plum and Lilly Pilly to super-boost the hair while being lightweight.

  4. Use a lightweight, low alcohol styling product to protect the hair when using a heat tool, and avoid clamping a straight iron and dragging it down the hair shaft. Instead, gently glide the straight iron down the hair shaft slightly angling it towards your body, this will mimic the angle of a quality blow-dry giving your hair a natural shine, protecting the cuticle. If blow-drying the hair, point the nozzle down the hair shaft, this will encourage the cuticle to sit flat giving you the smooth glossy shine as well as protecting the cuticle from heat damage.
